Job summary
We are looking for conscientious self-reliant plant maintenance fitters to carry out servicing, maintenance and repair on machines such as excavators, bulldozers, dumpers and access platforms at the depot and at client sites.
Role requirements
- Carry out periodic servicing of plant on site and at the depot using various hand and power tools, as well as welding gear and electrical testing equipment
- Maintain On-Track and construction plant components
- Repair and replace faulty parts to make sure On Track and construction plant works effectively
- Test On-Track and construction plant to ensure it operates and work properly and safely
- Electrical and Hydraulics knowledge would be an advantage
- Vehicle diagnostics and engine management systems knowledge would be an advantage
- Arrange the collection of On-Track and construction plant from client’s site requiring maintenance and servicing
- Provide technical assistance to plant operators
- Participate in out of hours on call rota to attend plant failure or breakdown
- Travel between depot and client’s sites as required to service machines
- Work alone without direct supervision
- Comply with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements
Qualifications and education requirements
- Have, or be prepared to work towards, a recognised qualification in Plant Maintenance (Construction) or equivalent. For example if you hold an NVQ level 2 or higher in Construction Plant Fitting or similar please provide details of these qualifications
- Have, or be prepared to work towards, Rail Plant Maintenance and Repair Competence

Additional notes
- A full valid driving licence is essential
- A reasonable level of fitness will be required as the role can be physically demanding and some tasks will be at heights
- Time spent away from home may be required from time to time
- Repairs take place in the open air at any time of the year, this will involve exposure to the elements
